The commercial operation of a 128.7 MW/515 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at its Lockhart CL I and II project in San Bernardino County, California, has been announced by Terra-Gen, one of the biggest autonomous solar power producers in the US. With the addition of 59.7 MW from the nearby Lockhart CL II ESS and 69 MW from the Lockhart CL I ESS, the total energy storage capacity is 515 megawatt-hours.
The system, which is integrated with the current Lockhart solar resources and infrastructure, can supply power for up to four hours, which is sufficient to meet the demands of tens of thousands of households. Leadership & Success In a statement commemorating the project's launch, John O'Connor, CEO of Terra-Gen, said, "California has some of the most ambitious clean energy goals in the nation, and I'm confident in the positive impact our new Lockhart facility will have in powering the state's future with new, clean, and reliable energy resources."
He underlined the company's dedication to provide massive-scale energy options which promote climate goals and improve grid resilience. The team's execution skills were emphasized by Terra-Gen Chief Development Officer Gus Luna:
Terra-Gen's Experience & Strategic Approach Over the years, Terra-Gen has developed, owned, and operated large-scale renewable energy projects throughout North America. The Lockhart complex is a testament to our team's ability to deliver integrated projects, at scale, on time, and to exceed performance and safety demands. The company's portfolio, which is jointly owned by Masdar and Igneo Infrastructure Partners, consists of numerous wind, solar, and storage projects with a combined capacity of several gigawatts. Its strategy places a strong emphasis on combining solar and battery technologies to deliver reliable renewable energy and electrical grid services..
From early ventures like its Tehachapi energy storage facility to intricate, combined solar and battery structures, Terra-Gen's developing proficiency in battery deployments is reflected in the Lockhart energy storage system's successful launch. Terra-Gen uses common infrastructure to speed rollout while keeping costs under control, as demonstrated by this project's smooth integration with current generation resources.
