The solar capacity in Germany increased by 1.07 GW in February

Solar energy deployment in Germany reached 1.07 GW in February, with over 38% of the new installations being subsidy-free, according to data published by the Federal Network Agency.

In February, the solar roll-out maintained its momentum, surpassing 1 GW once again. This follows a revision of January's figure, which was adjusted upward to 1.42 GW from 1.25 GW.

Thus, Germany is advancing towards its 2030 target of 215 GW of solar as the total gross installed solar energy capacity reached 84.88 GW at the end of February.

As much as 412.6 MW of all systems that were connected to the grid in February were built without state subsidies. Nearly half of the new capacity, or 507 MW, came from rooftop installations.

Unsurprisingly, Bavaria led in new solar installations, adding 515.5 MW of fresh capacity in the first two months of the year. Following closely were Saxony with 430.5 MW and Baden-Wuerttemberg with 375.8 MW.

The deployment of onshore wind energy accelerated slightly in February with 220 MW of new capacity, following 133.9 MW in the first month of the year. Overall, 61.37 GW of onshore wind farms were in operation in Germany at the end of February. Projects involving 85 turbines with a combined capacity of 469.2 MW were approved in February, a slight slowdown from the 568.6 MW authorised in January.
