TotalEnergies has launched commercial operations at its 720 MWp Danish Fields and 455 MWp Cottonwood solar farms in southeast Texas, totaling 1.2 GW. These projects are part of a larger renewable energy portfolio of 4 GW either operational or under construction in the state.

Danish Fields, the company's largest solar farm in the U.S., boasts 1.4 million ground-mounted photovoltaic panels and includes a 225 MWh battery storage system from Saft. Seventy percent of its capacity is secured through long-term Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with clients like Saint-Gobain, while the remaining 30% will aid in decarbonizing TotalEnergies’ industrial plants in the Gulf Coast region.

Together with the recently commissioned Myrtle Solar and the under-construction Hill 1 solar farm, these projects will meet the electricity needs of TotalEnergies’ facilities in Port Arthur and La Porte, Texas, and Carville, Louisiana.

Cottonwood features over 847,000 PV panels and will also include a 225 MWh battery storage system, set for commissioning in 2025. Its electricity production is contracted under long-term PPAs with LyondellBasell and Saint-Gobain, supporting their decarbonization efforts.

Olivier Jouny, TotalEnergies’ senior vice president of renewables, emphasized that the launch of Danish Fields and Cottonwood highlights the company’s capability to provide competitive renewable electricity, supporting both client and corporate decarbonization goals. He added that these projects contribute to TotalEnergies' strategy of delivering profitability across the entire value chain, aiming for a target of 12% ROACE in the Integrated Power sector.
