The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) unveiled groundbreaking initiatives aimed at revolutionizing decision-making and sustainability in the energy and infrastructure sectors. His Excellency Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, announced the launch of the Big Data Ecosystem and the Digital Twin Platform at the World Governments Summit.

The Big Data Ecosystem and Digital Twin Platform are collaborative endeavors involving government and private sector stakeholders, with the goal of enhancing the quality of life and promoting sustainable development in the UAE.

Key Highlights:

  1. Big Data Ecosystem:

  • Aims to analyze and leverage big data and digital technologies for strategic decision-making and sustainable development.

  • Seeks to enhance global competitiveness indicators and contribute to achieving sustainable development goals.

  • Links integrated data with partners to facilitate the transition to more sustainable energy systems.

  • Utilizes artificial intelligence, simulation, and predictive analytics for informed decision-making.

  • Focuses on improving energy consumption, optimizing resource use, and increasing customer satisfaction.

  1. Digital Twin Platform:

  • Utilizes digital twinning technology to create accurate digital models of assets, operational facilities, and service facilities.

  • Enables the transfer of live data and information for simulation, monitoring, and risk prediction.

  • Displays live data on the livability and sustainability of cities through 3D models.

  • Includes statistics on energy and water consumption, carbon footprint, traffic, air quality, and waste.

  • Supports decision-making, targeted initiatives, and proactive models for infrastructure asset protection and climate change mitigation.

Minister Al Mazrouei emphasized the role of these initiatives in achieving the UAE’s vision of becoming a global innovation hub in the energy and infrastructure sectors. The Big Data Ecosystem and Digital Twin Platform align with the broader objectives of transforming the UAE into a leader in innovation, efficiency, and sustainability.

The Digital Twin Platform, in particular, is expected to contribute significantly to decision-making processes, infrastructure performance improvement, and overall sector efficiency. It provides a comprehensive view of city statistics and facilitates the implementation of initiatives for climate neutrality, predictive maintenance plans, and infrastructure asset protection.

In addition to these initiatives, MoEI, in collaboration with Heriot-Watt University, launched two research papers at the World Governments Summit. These papers delve into the role of artificial intelligence and machine learning in demand-side response in energy systems and evaluate the potential of demand-side options to mitigate emissions, emphasizing adaptability and human well-being.

The launch of these initiatives and research papers marks a transformative step towards a more sustainable and technologically advanced future for the UAE’s energy and infrastructure sectors.
