Under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana, the state of Uttar Pradesh has set a bold target to install 800,000 rooftop solar systems by March 2027, in a move to boost clean energy adoption and reduce household electricity costs.
For the current financial year, the government aims to deploy 265,000 units, averaging 22,000 installations per month, or roughly 300 per district. To ensure smooth execution, targets have been set across administrative levels including districts, DISCOMs, municipal corporations, and municipalities. The scheme is being closely tracked via the Chief Minister’s Dashboard for real-time progress monitoring.
Implementation is being led by the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA), with a mission to bring solar power to every household. As of March 2025, over 1.07 million applications had been received through the scheme’s online portal. Installation work is progressing rapidly, with over 100,000 rooftop systems already completed. Officials report a current rate of 11,000 installations per month, or more than 500 per day.
To support the rollout, more than 2,500 vendors have been empanelled, and 1,800+ have undergone formal training in collaboration with the National Institute of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD), the Ministry of Skill Development, and UPNEDA. Financial support, including loans and credit guarantees, is also being extended to vendors through partner banks.
Launched in February 2024, the initiative is a flagship clean energy mission of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s government. With this push, Uttar Pradesh is rapidly emerging as a national leader in solar adoption at the residential level.
