Vietnam Electricity (EVN) has come up with solutions to address problems related to rooftop solar power development.
EVN came up with a proposal for the issues as there are only a few legal guidelines to regulate the power sector.
Recently, EVN pointed out "there is currently no clear legal basis for connecting rooftop solar power systems with the national grid as well as the establishments where they are installed for self-consumption," a local report mentioned.
EVN submitted the proposal to its Members’ Council. It has been reported that the development comes after receiving complaints from investors about the temporary suspension of connecting rooftop solar power systems.
The grids are pending government issuance of mechanisms and the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s guidance for implementation.
It has been further informed that foreign investors and domestic organisations have sought permission to use their own rooftop solar systems.
According to EVN, "regulations on procedures, standards, and technical requirements for the self-use of the system are yet to be developed."
Meanwhile, it is seeking the nod of the ministry to issue detailed regulations to govern solar power systems.
EVN has targeted around 5,500 MW of power generation from renewables by 2025. It includes 4,000 MW from wind power and 1.500 MW from solar power.
