Yinson’s 97-MWp Solar Facility in Peru Now Fully Operational

Yinson Renewables, based in Malaysia, announced on Tuesday that its 97-MWp Matarani solar farm in Peru has officially commenced full commercial operations.

Having started to export power in July 2024, the Matarani facility is projected to generate 260 GWh of electricity annually, sufficient to power around 62,000 households in Peru. The solar farm operates under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Orygen, a renewable energy generator in Peru supported by Actis.

Earlier this year, Yinson acquired the Matarani project from the Spanish renewable energy developer and operator Grenergy Renovables SA (BME). Grenergy provided comprehensive engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services for the project and will also support its operation and maintenance for the first two years.

David Brunt, CEO of Yinson Renewables, remarked, ““The Matarani Solar Plant is a significant milestone for Yinson Renewables, being our first in Peru and the region. With this plant now fully operational, Yinson Renewables has created a strong foundation which will facilitate our continued expansion in the region.”

Yinson Renewables has an ambitious pipeline in Latin America, with several projects totaling nearly 1 GW of capacity planned for development over the next three to five years. Additionally, the company owns the 130-MWp Majes solar project in Peru, with the first phase expected to be shovel-ready by the end of 2024.
