Zelestra, a leading global renewable energy company, has commenced the construction of two new solar power plants in Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. The Socovos II plant in Albacete and the José Cabrera plant in Guadalajara will collectively add 83 MW of renewable power capacity.
The José Cabrera plant will have a capacity of 50.4 MW, while Socovos II will have a capacity of 33 MW. Combined, these facilities are expected to generate approximately 143 GWh of energy annually, sufficient to power 37,500 households. This renewable energy production will help displace conventional electricity sources, reducing CO2 emissions by more than 71,500 tons per year. Both plants are slated to be operational by 2025.
Approximately 86% of the energy generated by these plants will supply Graphic Packaging International through a virtual Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Zelestra.
The construction and operation of the plants will also create local jobs, contributing to the regional economy.
Leo Moreno, CEO of Zelestra, stated, “We are proud to contribute to Spain’s energy future and to generate economic and environmental benefits for the country. The construction of these plants demonstrates our focus on execution in Spain, one of our key growth markets.”
These new projects reinforce Zelestra's commitment to Spain's energy transition. The company currently operates 384 MW of renewable energy capacity in the country.
