Portugal-based TagEnergy and its joint venture partner Harmony Energy on Monday announced they have fully energised their 49-MW/98-MWh Jamesfield battery energy storage system (BESS) in Scotland.
The standalone facility located near Abernethy is equipped with two-hour Tesla Megapack lithium-ion batteries and Tesla’s Autobidder AI software for real-time trading and control.
The commissioning of the BESS started gradually from last November, with construction works completed early last month. UK-based RES will serve as the site’s asset manager.
TagEnergy, controlled by Impala SAS and supported by major investors Mirova and Omnes, and its partner secured GBP 12.5 million (USD 15.9m/EUR 14.6m) in financing for the project from Spanish lender Santander. TagEnergy has a 60% stake in the development after the acquisition in November 2021.
The Jamesfield BESS is the third battery switched on by TagEnergy in the UK after the 20-MW/40-MWh Hawkers Hill Energy Park energy storage facility in Dorset, and 49.5-MW/99-MWh Chapel Farm BESS near Luton, England. All of them form part of TagEnergy’s secured portfolio in the UK, bringing it to 320 MW/640 MWh, including projects under construction.
