Police Scotland have issued an appeal for information following the theft of approximately £50,000 worth of high- and low-voltage copper cable from Crystal Rig Wind Farm in Innerwick, East Lothian.
The theft is believed to have occurred between 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 4, and 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 5. Due to the significant volume of cable stolen, authorities suspect that multiple individuals and heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) were involved in the operation.
A spokesperson from Fred. Olsen Renewables, which operates the site, confirmed that the stolen cabling was designated for internal turbine use at the upcoming Crystal Rig IV development and had not yet been installed.
“While this incident has not affected electricity generation at the existing wind farm, it raises serious concerns for both our team and the surrounding community,” the spokesperson said. “Theft of this nature in the local area is deeply troubling.”
The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
