UK renewables investor Low Carbon has secured development consent for a project set to create a 500MW solar complex with an energy storage facility in England’s Lincolnshire county.
The green light was given by the British Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, Low Carbon said on Friday.
The Gate Burton Energy Park will be installed near Gate Burton and will connect to the power transmission system at National Grid’s Cottam substation in Nottinghamshire. Once commissioned, the photovoltaic (PV) park is expected to generate enough power for over 160,000 homes annually.
“Timely decision-making is fundamental to the success of clean energy infrastructure and after months of political indecision on key projects this provides a clear signal to investors and the supply chain that the government is serious about giving priority to energy projects in the planning system,” said Mike Rutgers, managing director of UK development at Low Carbon.
About 350 jobs are expected to be created during the peak construction of the project. The developer previously said that building works could start in early 2025.
