Germany: IKEA launches 15-minute dynamic power tariff with Svea Solar

IKEA is widening its push into the energy sector in Germany, adding a dynamic electricity tariff to its growing portfolio that already includes photovoltaic systems, balcony solar kits, battery storage, wallboxes and heat pumps. The new offer tracks the day-ahead power exchange and updates the electricity price every 15 minutes based on market movements.

The tariff is delivered in partnership with Svea Solar’s German subsidiary. IKEA acts as the sales channel, while Svea Solar is the contractual supplier for customers. Importantly, households can sign up for the dynamic tariff even if they do not purchase any other energy hardware from IKEA. Germany is the first country globally where IKEA is rolling out this type of tariff.

Pricing structure and contract terms

The tariff, branded “Svea Strom,” supplies electricity exclusively from TÜV-certified renewable sources. Customers use an app that shows the forecast price for the next day. IKEA has not published the precise formula for the energy component and notes there is no price cap. However, Svea Solar says it adds a €0.02/kWh procurement fee on top of the market price, with grid fees, taxes, levies and surcharges applied in addition.

The monthly base fee is €6.99, reduced to €5.95 for IKEA Family and IKEA Business Network members. Business Network members who sign up by February 1, 2026 receive a six-month waiver of the base fee. After six months of continued service, customers receive a €25 IKEA voucher. The tariff is available to enroll in immediately and can be cancelled monthly.

Smart meter support and estimated savings

Where a smart meter is legally required, it will be provided free of charge. Mandatory installation applies when annual electricity use exceeds 6,000 kWh, or where a heat pump or wallbox is installed under Section 14a of the German Energy Industry Act (EnWG).

IKEA says households with battery storage could save around €300 per year by shifting consumption to lower-priced periods. If customers also operate PV, a wallbox, and/or a heat pump, the potential savings could rise to up to €500 per year, depending on usage patterns.

Jacqueline Polak, IKEA Germany’s expert for sustainable energy solutions, said the company’s goal is to make sustainable energy “affordable and accessible” regardless of housing situation, income or technical know-how, with a focus on greater transparency, flexibility and consumer participation in the power market.
