Abo Energy Completes 10.5 MW Solar Park with Integrated Battery Storage in Euskirchen
Abo Energy's 10.5-megawatt solar park in Euskirchen-Wüschheim has been operational since March 2024. The project, which was awarded under the Federal Network Agency's innovation tender in spring 2022, features a Tricera battery storage system with 3.5 megawatts of power and 7 megawatt hours of capacity. This system allows for the temporary storage of approximately 11.3 gigawatt hours of electricity per year, to be released during peak demand periods. This marks Abo Energy’s seventh hybrid project to be fully connected to the grid in Germany.
Previously known as Abo Wind, Abo Energy was rebranded in July 2024 to reflect its expanded focus on four key technologies of the energy transition: wind, photovoltaics, storage, and hydrogen.
Project manager Tobias-Pedro Dombole praised the collaborative efforts of politicians, authorities, and partners involved in the Euskirchen hybrid power plant. He noted, “The cooperation with all stakeholders has been both constructive and respectful.”
Additionally, the park’s greenery is being maintained by shepherd Manfred Philipps and his herd, who have been caring for the solar park’s landscape for several weeks.
