French electrical equipment maker Schneider Electric (EPA:SU) has tapped ACEN Corp (PSE:ACEN), the renewable energy arm of the Philippines' Ayala, for the supply of renewable power for five of its manufacturing sites in the Philippines.
The power purchase agreement (PPA) will enable American Power Conversion (APC) by Schneider Electric to switch to 100% renewable energy at its locations in the Cavite Economic Zone, ACEN said on Tuesday. The deal was awarded to ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES) under the Philippine government’s Green Energy Option Programme (GEOP).
The renewable power procurement covers five plants primarily focused on semiconductor manufacturing and Schneider Electric’s office premises. The arrangement will make the Cavite Smart Factory the first facility within a government eco-zone in Luzon and the first Schneider Electric site in East Asia to run solely on renewable energy, said Antonio Cheng, plant director for Cavite Cluster at Schneider Electric Philippines Inc.
According to ACEN’s estimates, the off-take will help avoid the equivalent of around 11,600 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
