AES Andes has commenced commercial operations for its 211MW Andes Solar Park IV project in Antofagasta, Chile.
The park also includes a 130MW battery energy storage system (BESS) with a 5-hour duration, making it the largest operational BESS in Latin America. This project is part of a broader solar hub, which combines 667MW of solar PV with 259MW of batteries in the region.
AES Andes CEO, Javier Dib, highlighted the company’s investment plan, which aims to have over 1,600MW of operational battery storage in Chile by 2027, showcasing its dedication to innovation and the country’s energy transition.
Additionally, the company recently began the environmental approval process for three new projects, which will include 1.7GW of solar PV and 2.4GW of BESS. AES Andes also received environmental approval for the Pampas Hybrid Park, set to combine wind, solar, and battery storage, with construction expected in 2025.
In related developments, Verano Energy connected a 10.5MWp solar PV plant in central Chile’s Ñuble region, south of Santiago.
