Air France to Source Power from 11 MWp of French Solar Parks

French air carrier Air France has clinched an off-take deal with compatriot Technique Solaire Group to offtake electricity from 11 MWp of solar parks for its building facilities.

French independent renewable power producer Technique Solaire announced the signing of two power purchase agreements (PPAs) on Thursday. The contracts will provide the airline group with more than 13 GWh of green power for 20 years “at a stable and competitive long-term price,” with the annual supply set to cover roughly 10% of the total annual power demand of its buildings.

Part of the contracted electricity volumes will be sourced from a photovoltaic (PV) farm in the commune of Saint Priest Taurion, in the Haute-Vienne department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The second arrangement is tied to the generation of a 6-MW solar plant in Pouille, in the Vendee department of western France. The two plants will have a combined output of roughly 13 GWh per year.

The PPAs will become effective in 2025 and 2026, respectively.

“We intend to reproduce this type of contract as we are convinced of the relevance and potential of this economic model to accelerate the energy transition,” said Thomas de Moussac, co-founder of Technique Solaire. He added that the PPA model will help the French Group reach its goal of having 4 GW of capacity in operation by 2030.
