Alight to Lead 2 GW Solar Initiative on State-Owned Land in Sweden

European solar power developer and independent power producer Alight has been chosen by the Swedish state-run forest owner Sveaskog to deploy 2 GW of new solar capacity across the country over the next five years.

Under a long-term partnership, Alight will develop, build and co-own the solar parks that will be installed on Sveaskog's land. The latter, which owns 14% of Sweden's forests, will co-invest between 30% and 49% in the solar facilities and contribute with sustainable management initiatives during the development process.

The first two projects are already under development. They will be located in central and southern Sweden in the electricity areas SE3 and SE4, spanning 150 and 70 hectares, respectively, a press statement said today.

“Investing in solar power on our land is natural for us as a large landowner and a way to contribute to the energy transition and the future need for fossil-free energy sources. Alight will be a stable partner for us in this work,” Sveaskog’s CEO Erik Brandsma noted.
