In a significant milestone for the Malaysian iron and steel industry’s sustainability efforts, Ann Joo Steel Berhad (AJS), a subsidiary of Ann Joo Resources Berhad, and Solarvest Holdings Berhad, a leading clean energy expert, have successfully completed the installation of a 3.3 megawatt-peak (MWp) rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system at AJS’ manufacturing plant in Seberang Perai, Pulau Pinang.
AJS entrusted Solarvest with the responsibility of providing engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) services for the upgrade of their existing 0.6 MWp rooftop solar PV system to 3.3 MWp. This upgraded system is projected to generate approximately 4040 megawatt-hours (MWh) of clean energy annually, enabling AJS to offset approximately 3,060 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
Dato’ Lim Hong Thye, Managing Director of Ann Joo Group, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability within the Malaysian iron and steel industry, stating, “Our continued adoption of green energy solutions demonstrates our commitment to leading the industry towards a more sustainable future.”
Mr. Davis Chong Chun Shiong, Executive Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of Solarvest, highlighted the urgency for decarbonization in the iron and steel sector, stating, “As advocates for clean energy, we celebrate Ann Joo’s progress in energy transitioning, which shows a dedicated commitment to achieving a more environmentally friendly future.”
This successful collaboration builds upon their previous partnership in 2020, where Solarvest and Ann Joo Steel worked on a 0.6 MWp solar PV system in Seberang Perai, Penang. Looking ahead, both companies are committed to furthering their efforts in advancing sustainable energy solutions within the iron and steel industry.
