US-based renewables investor Bluestar Energy Capital (BEC) has launched a project development platform targeting battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Europe.
The firm announced the launch on Wednesday, saying that the new platform, called Noveria Energy, will initially focus on the German market. It has already set up a project pipeline of over 2 GWh in the country, and is progressing the projects through interconnection and permitting processes.
Noveria Energy’s team is led by Ben Brooks, who hails form Schroders Greencoat and DNV.
“Well-located energy storage projects are a key enabler of the energy transition in Europe. An increasing demand for grid system services this decade coupled with increasingly volatile energy pricing across Germany and other regions underscore the need to rapidly scale battery storage capacity,” said Neil O’Donovan, Chair of Noveria Energy and President of BEC.
“Benefiting from BEC’s development experience in the U.S. and Australia, Noveria Energy’s vision is to be a leading developer and operator of large-scale energy storage projects in Germany and other select European markets,” O’Donovan added.
BEC has so far established several regional project development platforms, setting up pipelines in the US, Australia and now Europe. The company says its global pipeline spans over 10 GW of wind, solar and storage projects.
