BSR Energy Approved to Build 19 MW Solar Farm in Essex

Solar developer British Solar Renewables (BSR) announced today that it has obtained planning approval to build a solar farm in Maldon District in Essex with a targeted capacity of 19 MW.

The nod was obtained from the Maldon District Council after BSR submitted a revised plan as its previous application was denied over flood risks. The amended plan includes the relocation of the Distribution Network Operator substation and battery storage units, among others.

Spanning 33 hectares, the facility will be built south of Keelings Road near the village of Dengie. Once commissioned, it will generate enough clean electricity to power 4,751 homes annually.

The project is realised by the British firm’s development arm BSR Energy which has so far developed and built over 700 MWp. Construction works on the Dengie Solar Park are scheduled to start in early 2025 and the commissioning is expected within six months.

The clearance from the Maldon District in Essex comes shortly after BSR announced it has secured approval from the East Suffolk Council to deploy two solar projects of 21 MWp each in the district.
