Austria-based CCE Holding has completed the installation of a 40 MW photovoltaic facility in Arad county, Romania, in under a year. The solar park spans 50 hectares and is expected to generate enough power to meet the annual consumption of 17,000 Romanian households. This project, located in the Vladimirescu commune, marks CCE’s first solar installation in Romania.
The Horia project, valued at over EUR 35 million, was one of the first to receive funding from Romania’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP). CCE developed the project in partnership with Banat Agri Group and Austria’s Frapag. Construction began in late December, and the facility consists of high-efficiency 590 W solar modules.
The completion of this project is part of Romania’s solar energy boom, with the Ministry of Energy aiming to inaugurate one solar project per week. CCE is also advancing additional photovoltaic projects in Romania with a combined peak capacity of 1.3 GW. In the next two years, the company plans to install 220 MW.
CCE Holding operates in multiple countries, including Italy, France, the Netherlands, Germany, and Chile, with a total of 2 GW in peak capacity under development. In addition to large ground-mounted solar farms, the company is involved in commercial rooftop PV systems and energy storage solutions.
Romanian Minister Sebastian Burduja highlighted that these new solar installations will lower energy bills, boost competitiveness for local businesses, and contribute to a greener, more secure energy future for the country. His ministry has secured EUR 13 billion in grants for energy projects.
