UK energy company Centrica Plc has acquired a 13-MW operational solar farm and a solar-plus-storage project in England as part of its renewables investment plan.
The acquisition saw Centrica take over the operational Roundponds Solar Farm in Wiltshire and development rights for the construction of a 16-MW solar farm and 3-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) near Winterborne Whitechurch in Dorset, the company said on Monday.
The Roundponds plant was commissioned in 2015. Construction of the co-located solar and BESS facilities will begin in early 2024, and Centrica expects to export the first power to the grid in 2025.
The new additions to the portfolio are part of Centrica’s plan to invest between GBP 600 million (USD 757.5m/EUR 700.2m) to GBP 800 million annually in renewable power generation, security of supply and customers until 2028.
