Island Green Power has been awarded planning permission for the around 600MW Cottam solar farm in England.
UK Energy Secretary Ed Miliband signed off on a Development Consent Order for the project on 5 September, following an application submitted in January last year.
A ground-mounted solar array, along with associated infrastructure and a battery energy storage system, is now cleared for construction on land at the Nottinghamshire-Lincolnshire border.
It will connect to the grid at the nearby Cottam 400kV substation.
The ruling marks the fourth large-scale solar project to be approved by the Labour government, bringing the total PV capacity consented by Miliband since July’s election to almost 2GW.
“It’s an encouraging indication of the new government’s commitment to renewable energy which we hope will result in other positive resolutions on behalf of our clients in the renewables sector,” said Tara Chopra, technical director at Lanpro, which supported the application’s environmental impact assessment.
