Portuguese utility Energias de Portugal SA has been selected by sports retailer Decathlon to build up to 21 MWp of solar capacity at its facilities across six European countries.
To serve the new contract, EDP will install up to 80 solar plants, featuring some 42,000 solar panels, on the retailer's rooftops, carports, and other locations.
The deal covers Decathlon's facilities in France, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Belgium and Italy. EDP plans to have all the solar parks up and running by the end of 2026.
EDP said that the solar portfolio will have an annual production capacity of 21 MWh which corresponds to the demand of 4,000 homes.
Decathlon aims to switch to 100% renewable energy at its stores worldwide by 2026, while EDP has plans to invest EUR 2.5 billion (USD 2.7bn) by 2026 to add 4 GWp of new solar projects for households and businesses worldwide.
