Egypt’s Minister of Investment and External Trade, Hassan al-Khattib, unveiled a new initiative to equip the rooftops of buildings in the Alexandria Free Zone—home to 417 major export-focused businesses—with solar panels.
During his inspection of the 1,353-feddan zone, al-Khattib visited LORD International Co., known for its shaving tools. The company has implemented various measures to cut emissions and enhance mineral and water recycling. It has adopted hydrogen in place of ammonia with technical support from the EBRD and incorporated solar energy into its power supply.
LORD International Co. is set to debut the world’s first fully recyclable shaver in late 2024, catering to both local and international markets, alongside offering men’s personal care products as alternatives to imports. The company is also introducing two new production lines for durable razors, with a combined monthly capacity of 2.4 million units and an initial investment of €15 million. LORD currently produces 5.5 billion razors and 1 billion shavers annually, employing 3,200 people and exporting to 80 countries.
