EliTe Solar, a leading global producer of photovoltaic (PV) cells and modules, has announced an ambitious plan to develop a solar manufacturing hub in Egypt.
The investment, exceeding $150 million, follows high-level discussions with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, the Chairman of the Suez Special Economic Zone, and representatives from Chinese conglomerate TEDA.
The new facility will be situated in the TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone, strategically located near Suez. Covering an area of 78,000 square meters, the hub will boast a substantial production capacity of 8 gigawatts (GW). The initial phase of the project, slated for completion by September 2025, will focus on establishing a 2 GW solar cell production line.
Upon full operation, the hub is anticipated to generate annual sales exceeding $190 million, positioning Egypt as a pivotal center for photovoltaic manufacturing in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
Liu Jingqi, Chairman of EliTe Solar, emphasized the strategic importance of this venture, stating, “This project will transform Egypt into a key hub for photovoltaic manufacturing in the MENA region. We are introducing advanced technologies that will enhance local supply chains and set new standards in manufacturing excellence. Our state-of-the-art facility will exemplify efficiency, sustainability, and cutting-edge production methodologies.”
Headquartered in Singapore, EliTe Solar operates additional manufacturing facilities in Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Middle East, with a total annual wafer production capacity of 6 GW, and cell and module capacities of 7 GW and 5 GW, respectively.
