Enel Green Power activates 348 MW wind farm in Brazil

Enel Green Power SpA has put into commercial operation the 348.3-MW Aroeira Wind Complex in the Brazilian state of Bahia.

Built at a total cost of BRL 2.5 billion (USD 493.69m/EUR 456.15m), Aroeira features 81 turbines spread across eight wind parks located in the municipalities of Umburanas, Morro do Chapeu and Ourolandia.

The wind complex should be capable of generating enough power to meet the demand of 849,000 local homes.

According to the state government, Enel received tax incentives and licences to speed up the installation and operation of the wind complex, which in turn enabled the creation of 3,000 jobs.

Aroeira is among Enel's 68 renewable energy projects in Bahia. Of these, 18 relate to solar and the remaining 50 to wind generation. The company is currently building another 10 projects in the state, including the 193.5 MW Pedra Pintada wind farm.
