ENGIE has awarded contracts for the construction of three new solar farms in Ireland, marking its first onshore renewable projects in the country. These sites, located in Galway and Limerick counties, will have a combined capacity of 18 MWp, sufficient to power 4,100 homes with clean, affordable electricity. ENGIE Astatine and TLI Group have been appointed as the lead construction firms.
These solar farms—Ardnadoman, Dromsallagh, and Rooaun—are among six ENGIE projects totaling 60 MWp awarded under Ireland’s Renewable Energy Support Scheme (RESS) 3 auction in 2023, an initiative to promote large-scale renewable energy.
Construction is set to begin in January 2025, with an anticipated commissioning in the latter half of the year. As part of its commitment to sustainable development, ENGIE is establishing a community benefit fund for each project, contributing around €34,000 annually to local initiatives.
ENGIE UK and Ireland’s Managing Director of Renewables, Suresh Bhaskar, emphasized the significance of this milestone: “We are excited to bring ENGIE’s renewable expertise to Ireland, expanding the country’s clean energy capacity while delivering economic and environmental benefits to the communities we serve.”
