Engie Zielona Energia, part of French utility group Engie SA (EPA:ENGI), has agreed to acquire a 250 MW/1,000 MWh battery energy storage (BESS) project from Polish renewables developer R.Power.
The planned BESS in Tursko Wielkie, in Poland’s central Świętokrzyskie province, is at a ready-to-build stage, with construction scheduled to begin in early 2027, Engie Zielona Energia said.
One of the largest battery projects in the country will be strategically connected to the Połaniec power station, which will enable effective management of power flows and reduce the burden on the region's transmission infrastructure.
Connection conditions have already been secured for the project and the final administrative and environmental decisions are being finalised.
The facility will support grid stability, enable efficient use of surplus energy from renewable sources and help to better balance energy demand in real time, the company added.
Engie pointed out that the project is part of its long-term strategy to develop modern energy infrastructure in Poland, which will enable safe integration of renewable energy sources into the power system.
For R.Power, the transaction is in line with its plans for asset rotation and reinvestment of the acquired funds in new generation capacities, the company said in a bourse filing.
