
At the 6th African Regional Committee meeting of the International Solar Alliance in Abidjan, Ethiopia’s Minister of Water and Energy, Dr. E.R. Habtamu Itefa, showcased the country's advancements in solar energy. Dr. Itefa emphasized the vital role of solar power in providing clean drinking water and supporting agricultural development in Ethiopia.
He highlighted several ongoing solar projects in Ethiopia, which have been developed with assistance from the International Solar Alliance. Key initiatives include the expansion of solar mini-grids, installation of rooftop solar systems, and the construction of solar parks. Dr. Itefa also mentioned the creation of a solar energy knowledge and training center and the development of a regulatory framework for solar energy in Ethiopia.
Among the projects presented was a solar pump initiative in Yergachefe, Southern Ethiopia, which is being used as a model for other African countries. Dr. Itefa also participated in an online discussion with Dr. Ajay Mathur, Director General of the International Solar Alliance, to enhance collaboration between Ethiopia and the Alliance.
