Europe Adds 8.8 GW of Wind Capacity in First Half of 2026

Europe installed 8.8 GW of new wind power capacity in the first half of 2026, nearly one-third more than in the same period last year, according to industry association WindEurope.

Germany was the largest contributor, accounting for 39% of the new capacity, while total wind capacity across Europe reached 311 GW by the end of June. Offshore wind also accelerated, with 2.1 GW of new offshore capacity connected to the grid, roughly three times the level recorded in the first half of 2025.

WindEurope highlighted permitting, renewable energy auctions, grid infrastructure and electrification as key factors that will determine whether Europe can sustain this growth. The latest figures underline the increasing role of wind power in Europe’s energy transition and the need for faster grid development to support further renewable deployment.
