European Energy Brings 545 MWh of Battery Storage Online

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, August 27, 2026 — European Energy has brought 167 MW / 545 MWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) into operation during the first eight months of 2026, marking a significant expansion of its renewable energy portfolio and establishing battery storage as a new asset class for the company.
The initial deployment has focused on co-located battery storage, adding BESS to existing renewable energy projects to improve asset economics, maximise the use of renewable power and create additional revenue opportunities.
Since the beginning of 2026, European Energy has commissioned battery systems at Kvosted, Agersted, Stouby, Kragerup and Måde in Denmark, as well as Anykščiai in Lithuania and Saldus in Latvia.
According to European Energy CEO Knud Erik Andersen, battery storage is becoming an increasingly important part of the company's business. The company is simultaneously expanding its operational portfolio while developing a larger pipeline of projects across its markets.
Co-locating batteries with renewable generation allows European Energy to leverage existing grid connections, renewable assets and knowledge of local electricity markets. The company expects this approach to support the development of hybrid renewable energy assets with broader revenue streams.
Battery storage can also provide wider benefits to electricity systems by storing power during periods of high renewable generation and releasing it when demand increases. This can help reduce grid pressure, limit renewable curtailment and balance fluctuations in electricity supply and demand.
European Energy plans to further deploy BESS across Denmark, Australia, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, the United Kingdom and Germany.
The company also sees its growing battery portfolio as creating additional investment opportunities. Depending on individual market conditions and projects, batteries may be retained as part of European Energy's operating portfolio, integrated with renewable generation as hybrid assets, or sold as part of its project divestment activities.
