European Energy Secures Grid Approvals for 500 MW of Projects in Romania

Danish renewables developer European Energy A/S on Friday said it has obtained grid connection approvals for around 500 MW of solar and wind projects in Romania, advancing the developments towards ready-to-build stage.

The company currently has a development pipeline surpassing 1.5 GW in Romania and is working on receiving grid connection approvals for the remaining projects.

Ioannis Kalapodas, head of European Energy’s Romania office, said the developer sees Romania as a very promising market. “The upcoming auction for Contract for Difference outlined in the Romanian renewable energy support scheme, totalling 5 GW, will unlock the implementation of more wind and solar projects,” Kalapodas commented.

According to European Energy, hybrid projects, combining solar, wind and battery storage, could drive the development of renewable energy in Romania. In addition, the establishment of clear regulations for guarantees of origin could further spur development by stimulating corporate power purchase agreements in the country, the company said.
