FRV Launches Hybrid Solar-Storage Park in Queensland

Global renewables developer Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) on Thursday said that its Aussie arm has put on stream a solar-plus-storage park in Queensland, its first hybrid project in Australia.

Located about 200 km (124.3 mi) north of Brisbane, the complex is one of Australia’s first hybrid PV and battery energy storage system (BESS) developments, according to Madrid-based FRV. The Dalby site covers 30 ha of land and is made up of 2.45 MW of solar arrays and a battery of 2.5 MWp/5 MWh, sharing the same grid-connection. The photovoltaic (PV) farm’s output will be enough to cover the electricity consumption of more than 1,680 homes annually.

Spanish solar platform Gransolar was responsible for the project’s design, acting as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor.

FRV Australia is a joint venture between Saudi Arabia’s Abdul Latif Jameel Energy and Canadian pension fund and asset manager and investor OMERS Infrastructure. The company noted it is working on more hybrid projects across Australia, while two of its battery storage projects in Victoria, the 100-MW Terang and 250-MW Gnarwarre, have reached the ready-to-build phase and are planned to enter construction in the second half of 2024.
