Germany Exceeds 7.3 GW New Solar PV Additions in First Half of 2026

Germany Reaches 7.39 GW of New Solar PV Capacity in H1 2026, Sustaining European Decarbonization Leadership  

BONN, Germany — September 3, 2026 — Official data released by Germany’s Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) reveals that Germany installed 7.39 gigawatts (GW) of new solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity during the first six months of 2026, maintaining its position as Europe’s largest solar market. 

Monthly additions demonstrated steady momentum throughout the year, culminating in over 1.82 GW of newly registered capacity in July alone. Ground-mounted utility-scale installations led the expansion—contributing over 917 MW in July—supported by robust growth in commercial rooftop and agricultural PV (Agri-PV) segments.  

The additions bring Germany’s cumulative installed solar capacity beyond 128 GW, keeping the country firmly on track to meet its statutory target of 215 GW of solar capacity by 2030 as outlined in the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG).

Streamlined planning approvals, grid modernization investments by transmission system operators (TSOs), and falling module costs have contributed to sustained deployment across both northern agricultural regions and southern industrial clusters.
