Construction has begun on RP Global’s first German solar PV project, a 50 MWp plant in Harbke (Saxony-Anhalt) on the Wulfersdorf spoil tip, a legacy of one of Germany’s oldest lignite mines on the former East-West border. The project—developed with EPC partner MaxSolar—has cleared an extensive permitting process, with phase one set at 50 MWp and future expansion planned.
The site is already crossed by two existing power lines, enabling efficient grid injection without new transmission builds. Lignite was extracted here for decades; after World War II the opencast mine was split and supplied energy on both sides of the border.
Access to the project follows the listed “Kolonnenweg” (the former “death strip”), so strict heritage-protection measures are in place for deliveries and construction.
Harbke’s PV park has been included in the “Global Sustainable Municipality nationwide” initiative as one of five model municipalities, aiming to embed Agenda 2030 and its 17 SDGs into local administrative practice.
