GreenGo and Astrea Energia Announce Significant Solar Initiatives in Lombardy: 3.5 MW Land-Based and 5 MW Floating PV with $2.3 Billion Investment

GreenGo, in collaboration with Astrea Energia, has announced two new solar energy projects in Lombardy. The first project, already authorized, is a 3.5 MW photovoltaic system located on a former quarry site. The second project, in the preliminary stages, involves constructing a 5 MW floating photovoltaic system on a reclaimed water basin.

These projects signify a major advancement in the Pavia area’s energy landscape, with a combined peak power of 8.5 MWp, both connected to the local electricity grid.

The first plant will cover 4.88 hectares and generate 3.5 MWp, with construction set to begin by the end of the year and operations expected to start in June 2025. The second plant will use floating photovoltaic technology on a 10.6-hectare water basin, providing a peak power of 5 MWp.

Both initiatives aim to minimize environmental impact through careful site studies and construction strategies. The projects will ensure the full reversibility of the installations at the end of their life cycle.

The strategic partnership with Astrea Energia, launched in 2023, highlights Astrea’s expertise in renewable energy. Maria Sabella, Co-founder of Astrea Energia, emphasized the value of the collaboration, noting the projects enrich their Northern Italy portfolio, which exceeds 300 MW. She also expressed hope for government support to boost the floating photovoltaic sector in Italy.

Fabio Amico, Development Director at GreenGo, praised the initiative as a confirmation of GreenGo’s commitment to innovative energy solutions. He highlighted the goal of creating Italy’s first utility-scale floating PV demonstration plant, supported by public programs for innovation in the renewable energy sector.

GreenGo continues to expand its presence in Italy, with projects across 11 regions. The addition of Lombardy underscores GreenGo’s role in the country’s eco-sustainable energy transition, focusing on areas with significant gaps in renewable energy installations to meet 2030 regional objectives.
