Two of Poland’s largest battery energy storage projects, with a combined capacity of 400MW and 1.6GWh, are set to receive €218 million in financing from UniCredit.
Renewable energy developer Greenvolt Group has secured a €218 million financing package from European commercial bank UniCredit to support the development of two large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Poland.
The financing will support Greenvolt Power’s Ełk and Turośń BESS projects, which together represent 400MW of power capacity and 1.6GWh of energy storage capacity.
The financing package comprises €153 million in bridge facilities and a further €65 million guarantee facility, providing funding for the development and construction of the two projects.
Two Major BESS Projects
Located in northeastern Poland, both projects will have a capacity of 200MW/800MWh, placing them among the largest battery storage developments in the country.
The Turośń Kościelna BESS project was officially inaugurated in July 2026, while the Ełk project is expected to enter commercial operation in Q4 2026.
The scale of the projects highlights the increasing importance of battery storage in Poland’s power market. As renewable generation continues to expand, large-scale BESS facilities can provide greater grid flexibility, improve system resilience and support electricity security.
Growing Investor Confidence in Energy Storage
The latest transaction builds on Greenvolt and UniCredit’s existing cooperation across renewable energy projects in several European markets.
Greenvolt Group CEO João Manso Neto said the financing demonstrates strong confidence from financial institutions in the company’s development capabilities and project pipeline.
The company also highlighted the importance of strong financing partners in converting its growing battery storage pipeline into operational assets.
According to Adrian Góralski, Director of M&A and Project Finance at Greenvolt Power, the agreement reflects increasing lender confidence in battery storage as a mature and bankable infrastructure asset.
UniCredit also described energy storage as an increasingly important component of Europe’s decarbonisation and grid-stability strategy.
Poland Strengthens Its Energy Storage Market
With 400MW/1.6GWh of new BESS capacity being developed, the projects represent a significant investment in Poland’s energy infrastructure.
The €218 million financing package demonstrates the growing availability of institutional financing for large-scale battery storage and reinforces the role of BESS in supporting Europe’s energy transition.
As Poland continues to expand renewable generation, the development of large-scale storage projects is expected to become increasingly important for balancing supply and demand, strengthening grid resilience and integrating variable renewable power.

This €218 million financing for Greenvolt's 400MW BESS projects in Poland is a clear sign of increasing investor confidence in large-scale battery storage as a key enabler for Europe's energy transition. The sheer size of these Ełk and Turośń projects will significantly bolster grid flexibility, and it's exciting to imagine a future where energy reliability is so robust, it opens up new possibilities for everyone, even for finding unblocked games 66 when power is plentiful.
