Greenvolt to Deploy 110 MW of DG Solar in Romania

Portuguese renewables group Greenvolt has set foot in the Romanian distributed generation (DG) market with plans to deploy 110 MW of solar power capacity in the Balkan country over the next three years.

The company’s DG solutions business Greenvolt Next will spend EUR 27 million (USD 28.8m) to install the proposed capacity, it said on Thursday.

Greenvolt Next Romania designs, builds, manages and maintains rooftop and ground-mounted photovoltaic (PV) plants and solar carports, which are run under power purchase agreements (PPAs). The company also offers energy efficiency, solar storage, and electric mobility solutions.

Greenvolt highlighted the DG segment’s significant role in the current geopolitical environment as an option to lower both electricity costs and improve price volatility. The company will rely on the strong renewable energy solutions potential in Romania and the efforts to meet the national green capacity addition goals.

“The launch of Greenvolt Next Romania represents a natural step in the growth of the group’s pan-European self-consumption platform,” said Joao Manso Neto, CEO Greenvolt Group, adding that the Balkan country could be “at the forefront of the decentralized energy revolution.”

Greenvolt Group has been operating in Romania since 2021 through subsidiary Greenvolt Power, which is focused on the utility-scale wind, solar and energy storage markets.
