Spanish renewable energy developer Grenergy has launched a reverse auction in Chile for the sale of 1.7 terawatt-hours per year of clean energy from its solar and battery storage facilities, targeting supply between early 2026 and mid-2027.
Organised through its local energy marketing arm GR Power, the auction is open to generators, retailers, and large energy consumers looking for long-term energy contracts. The initiative includes the delivery of 1,400GWh/year of stored energy during nighttime hours and 300GWh/year of solar PV generation.
This marks Grenergy’s second self-organised renewable auction in Chile, following its pioneering effort in March 2022, which made it the first clean energy producer in Latin America to conduct such an auction.
The current round is conducted through the local platform Match Energia, with the application phase open until 6 May.
With over 12 years of operation in Chile, Grenergy holds one of the largest renewable portfolios in the country, comprising 4.1GW of solar and a pipeline of 18.3GWh of battery storage. This includes the Oasis de Atacama, one of the world’s largest battery storage projects.
By expanding auction access to a wider range of energy stakeholders, Grenergy aims to promote competitive pricing and accelerate the energy transition in Latin America.
