The UAE has formalized a significant investment memorandum with Rajasthan to explore a groundbreaking 60 GW renewable energy project in India, focusing on solar, wind, and hybrid energy. This agreement builds on the broader Investment Cooperation established between the UAE Ministry of Investment and India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
Signatories of the memorandum include His Excellency Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, UAE Minister of Investment, and Shri Ajitabh Sharma, Principal Secretary of Industries in Rajasthan. The collaboration aims to introduce advanced renewable energy technologies, ensuring a long-term solution to the region's energy demands.
H.E. Alsuwaidi emphasized the UAE's commitment to sustainable energy, stating that the project would leverage Rajasthan's favorable climate and land resources to innovate and meet future energy needs. Rajasthan's Chief Minister, Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the partnership's role in accelerating India's clean energy transition.
Both nations have set ambitious clean energy targets, with the UAE aiming for 50% of its energy mix to come from clean sources by 2050 and committing over USD 163 billion to achieve net-zero emissions. Rajasthan, aligning with India's broader goals, seeks to reduce carbon intensity by 45% by 2030 and reach net-zero emissions by 2070. Currently, India sources 40% of its power capacity from non-fossil fuels, ahead of schedule, and aims to become a global leader in green hydrogen production by 2030 through its USD 2.4 billion National Green Hydrogen Mission.
