India Deepens Strategic Cooperation with Malaysia and Vietnam on Clean Energy, Critical Minerals and Technology

NEW DELHI, India — September 13, 2026 — India is strengthening strategic and economic cooperation with Malaysia and Vietnam, with clean energy, critical minerals, semiconductors, investment and advanced technologies emerging as key areas of bilateral engagement.

On the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held separate meetings with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, alongside discussions with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali.

The bilateral discussions covered a broad range of strategic areas, including defence and security, investment, energy and strategic technologies.

India and Malaysia also discussed opportunities in the semiconductor sector, reflecting growing interest in expanding cooperation in advanced technology and manufacturing.

Meanwhile, discussions involving Malaysia and Ethiopia included strengthening defence cooperation, including personnel training and defence procurement.

The meetings come as India seeks to deepen economic and strategic partnerships with countries across Southeast Asia and other emerging markets.

For Malaysia and Vietnam, cooperation in clean energy, critical minerals, semiconductor manufacturing and technology could create new opportunities for investment and industrial collaboration.

The latest diplomatic engagements highlight the growing importance of these sectors to India’s international economic strategy, while also underscoring the potential for stronger connections between India and Southeast Asia’s clean-energy and technology industries.
