Farajollah Memamri, Chairman of Iran’s Chamber of Trade, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture, has called on Chinese investors to engage in the development of cutting-edge solar power plants in Semnan Province, which holds significant promise for renewable energy, especially in solar power.
Iran is seeking Chinese collaboration in several areas, including the construction of both large and small-scale solar power plants, the supply of solar panels, and the provision of technical expertise for solar energy projects.
In February 2023, Iran inaugurated its most advanced solar farm in Semnan as part of the Energy Ministry’s initiative to boost renewable energy capacity and enhance economic efficiency. The 10-megawatt (MW) Damghan facility produces 40% more energy than comparable projects, thanks to its use of advanced technologies such as bifacial solar panels, a light detection system, and locally developed robotic panel cleaners, which minimize water usage and maintenance costs.
The Damghan solar farm was developed with a private investment of €5.8 million. Additionally, in November, a Chinese company signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Iran’s Maku Free Zone Organization to invest $7 million in a power plant project aimed at supplying electricity to startups and IT companies within the zone.
Hossein Garousi, head of the Maku Free Zone Organization, noted that the MOU supports the zone’s ambitions to become a smart city, leveraging its existing infrastructure to achieve this goal.
