Kosol Energie Launches Hail-Resistant n-Type Glass-Glass Modules for Enhanced Solar Durability

Indian solar module manufacturer Kosol Energie has introduced a new series of n-type glass-glass hail-resistant solar modules, designed to improve module durability and reliability in regions exposed to severe weather conditions.

The newly launched modules have successfully passed 35 mm hail impact testing, demonstrating enhanced resistance against glass damage and microcracks caused by hail events. According to Kosol Energie, the modules were tested at a National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL)-approved International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) laboratory, confirming their improved mechanical performance and reliability.

The new product series is manufactured using thermally tempered high-strength solar glass, which enhances structural strength and improves resistance against external impacts. In addition, Kosol Energie has increased the use of Polyolefin Elastomer (POE) encapsulation measured by higher grams per square metre, providing additional cushioning protection for solar cells during transportation, vibration, thermal cycling, and hail impact scenarios.

Beyond mechanical durability, the modules also incorporate high-transmission Anti-Reflective Coated (ARC) glass technology, enabling improved light absorption and higher energy generation performance while maintaining strong conversion efficiency under different climatic conditions.

The hail-resistant modules are available in three power output versions: 600 Wp, 620 Wp, and 630 Wp. The products comply with the IEC 61215:2021 standard and are also available in Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)-certified Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) configurations, including G12R and G12 formats, supporting India’s growing demand for locally manufactured solar modules.

Commenting on the launch, Kalpesh Kalthia, Chairman and Managing Director of Kosol Energie, said that the future development of solar energy depends not only on improving efficiency but also on ensuring long-term reliability under increasingly challenging weather conditions. He added that the company’s enhanced n-type glass-glass modules are designed to maximize energy generation while reducing long-term operational risks for customers.

The launch comes as extreme weather resilience becomes an increasingly important consideration for solar project developers worldwide. In recent years, multiple manufacturers have introduced hail-resistant photovoltaic modules aimed at improving performance in hail-prone regions. For example, LONGi introduced its Hi-MO 9 Ice-Shield module at Intersolar Europe, while Thornova Solar launched a module designed to withstand extreme hail conditions.

Hail damage has become a growing concern for solar asset owners, particularly in markets such as the United States. Industry discussions have increasingly focused on improving module durability and risk management strategies, with climate insurance provider kWh Analytics highlighting the financial impact of severe hail events on solar installations. Its report noted that hail accounted for a significant share of financial losses despite representing a smaller proportion of total incidents.

With the introduction of its new hail-resistant module series, Kosol Energie aims to address growing demand for more durable photovoltaic solutions capable of maintaining long-term performance in challenging environmental conditions.
