German energy storage developer Kyon Energy announced on Monday that it has obtained approval for a 100-MW/200-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at home.
The facility will be built in Dahlem municipality, North Rhine-Westphalia. Construction works on the project are set to start in the third quarter of 2025, while the commissioning is expected by the end of 2026.
The new project will serve a region accommodating 21 existing wind turbines.
Over the past four months, the Munich-based firm has confirmed the planned realisation of new storage projects with a combined capacity of 237.5 MW/507 MWh. Most recently, it secured approval for a 50-MW/116-MWh storage facility in southwest Germany.
KyonEnergy has developed storage projects with a capacity of 770 MW since its founding in 2021. Some 120 MW of these are already in operation, 350 MW are under construction, and 300 MW are ready for construction.
