Energy company LEAG has officially commissioned the Haidemuehl solar park, a 22 MWp facility located at the Welzow-Sued lignite mine in Germany. This marks a significant step in the company’s ambitious initiative to transform the Lusatia mining region into a renewable energy hub.
The Haidemuehl solar park will contribute clean energy to the grid operated by 50Hertz, enhancing the region’s transition to a sustainable energy future. The project was realized through close collaboration with key partners, including Roesch Group as the developer, GMB GmbH as the construction manager, and Greencells GmbH as the technical installer.
This new solar park is part of LEAG’s GigawattFactory initiative, an expansive plan to establish up to 7 GW of renewable energy capacity in Lusatia by 2030, backed by an investment of EUR 10 billion (USD 10.5 billion). The initiative aims to repurpose former mining sites into green energy hubs, supporting Germany’s broader energy transition goals.
The Haidemuehl facility represents LEAG’s fifth operational solar park, further diversifying its green energy portfolio. The company is currently advancing projects with a combined capacity of approximately 3.9 GW, underlining its commitment to sustainability and energy transformation.
Speaking on the project, a representative from LEAG said:"The Haidemuehl solar park is a vital component of our vision to lead Lusatia’s shift from traditional mining operations to a future powered by renewable energy. By integrating solar power into the region’s infrastructure, we are creating new opportunities for sustainable growth and energy independence."
With the successful commissioning of the Haidemuehl solar park, LEAG continues to strengthen its position as a key player in Germany’s renewable energy sector while actively contributing to the green economy and local development in Lusatia.
