A consortium led by Masdar has signed an agreement with Nama Power and Water Procurement to build Oman’s first utility-scale solar and battery energy storage facility.
The group—comprising Masdar, Al Khadra Partners, Korea Midland Power Co. Ltd, and OQ Alternative Energy—will develop the Ibri III Solar Independent Power Project. The initiative will feature a 500-MW photovoltaic plant alongside a 100-MWh battery storage system.
The project covers the full scope from design and financing through to construction, ownership, operation, and maintenance.
Once commissioned, Ibri III is expected to generate enough electricity to supply roughly 33,000 households, while cutting around 505,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. It will also raise the share of renewables in Oman’s energy mix by about four percent.
The development supports Oman’s Vision 2040, which targets sourcing 30% of the nation’s electricity from renewable energy by 2030.
