MEMR to explore the technology of concentrated solar power in Jordan

In line with the Excellence Month activities organized by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, a workshop titled “Concentrated Solar Power Technology in Jordan” was conducted, featuring Dr. Engineer Mohammed Afana, General Manager and Head of the Engineering Department at Industrial Thermal Company, as the presenter.

During the workshop, Dr. Afana delved into the intricacies of concentrated solar power technology, discussing equations, calculations, designs, and algorithms employed in its local development. He highlighted its diverse applications in the industrial sector, showcasing its capability to generate thermal energy for water heating, thermal oil, and industrial steam production. Dr. Afana also emphasized the efficiency and economic viability of utilizing thermal technology to advance sustainability efforts.

A key highlight of the workshop was a field visit by ministry staff to the Al-Asalah Food Industries Company in Al-Zarqa, where a detailed presentation on the Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) project was provided. This project, boasting a capacity of 700 kWp.th, is currently under development and is slated for inauguration in September 2024. The initiative represents the company’s foray into concentrated solar power systems, establishing it as the first specialized entity in designing, manufacturing, and implementing CSP projects in Jordan.
