Spanish utility Naturgy Energy Group SA has started building a 300-MWp solar farm at a site in the region of Extremadura, western Spain, the company said on Friday.
Named Campo de Aranuelo, the plant will be Naturgy’s largest solar photovoltaic facility in Spain, according to the group, which is investing over EUR 150 million (USD 162.6m) in the project.
The Campo de Aranuelo solar farm will cover an area of 290 hectares (31.2m sq ft) in Caceres province. Naturgy plans to have it up and running in 2026.
Once fully operational, the plant will be capable of generating around 515 GWh of electricity annually.
Naturgy currently has two wind and two solar farms in operation in Extremadura. Apart from Campo de Aranuelo, the company has three other solar projects under construction, which will add a combined 150 MW of capacity to the region.
