NEPI Rockcastle invests 100 million euros in photovoltaics and starts new residential projects

NEPI Rockcastle, Romania's largest mall owner, is planning to launch new residential projects following the success of its first development in Bucharest.

The company has announced plans to invest around €100 million in ready-to-build greenfield photovoltaic projects across several new locations in Romania. This substantial investment aims to expand NEPI Rockcastle's green energy generation capacity and meet the energy consumption needs of its tenants.

The new photovoltaic facilities are expected to become operational by the end of 2026, adding an additional 159 MW to the group's production capacity. This initiative will cover 80% of the energy needs for the company’s portfolio in Romania, while also reducing its carbon footprint by 36%.

NEPI Rockcastle has already completed the installation of photovoltaic panels on the roofs of 27 properties in Romania, generating €4.1 million in revenue during the first half of this year, following a €34 million investment. The second phase of this project involves installing photovoltaic panels on 24 additional locations outside Romania, with an estimated investment of €15 million. These installations are currently in various stages of authorization.

Expanding its residential ventures, NEPI Rockcastle has also announced plans to continue investing in Romania's residential sector after the successful completion of its first project in Bucharest. The company has sold 82% of the apartments in its Vulcan Residence development in Bucharest. NEPI Rockcastle owns land in several cities across the country and has previously indicated its intention to build new residential projects.

Two new residential developments are planned for Brașov and Craiova, on land adjacent to the malls the company owns in these cities. These projects are currently in the authorization process, with completion expected by the last quarter of 2026.

In addition to Brașov and Craiova, NEPI Rockcastle also owns residential land in Satu Mare, Râmnicu-Vâlcea, Timișoara, and Bucharest, signaling further potential developments in these areas.
